Zetland News letter May 2021

NEWSLETTER
ZETLAND HUNT SUPPORTERS CLUB
The last 18 months have been hard for everyone as we have adapted to a new ‘normal’. Businesses have been hit hard, social events and sport almost non existent and the loss of friends and relatives has been hard to take.
However, it looks as though there is now light at the end of the tunnel and there are a number of events planned for the summer. Keep an eye on your Hunt email, website and texts for new notifications.
Zetland & Cleveland Point to Point.
Even though it was held behind closed doors for participants only, there was a
good atmosphere and nearly 60 runners. Stuart Gibbon had done a brilliant job watering the course to provide good going with horses coming from Scotland, the north west area and the midlands.
The lay out was slightl different with everything being organised below the wall, paddock, horsesbox parking etc,. No tents, trailers for the decs team, scales, and secretary. Theway forward for next year! More importantly, It also marked the end of an era as Susan Town who has been the secretary for 21years (1995 -21). A terrific stint for which the Zetland point to Point Hunt Committee and the Hunt are extremely grateful. A great organiser, Rain or shine Susan was always there with a smile to ensure all ran smoothly.
Editors note: The Darlington & Stockton Times ran an excellent preview and a full report on the event.

Ride the Boundary

On Sunday the 6th of June, 10 or so riders are going to set off from the Zetland kennels in an attempt to cycle the whole of the hunt country boundary in one day to raise money for Hunt funds. Set to be a gruelling 108 mile challenge.
Not only is this a long way, the route also takes us up some serious inclines, a couple including the Stang are named in the top 100 road bike climbs in the UK!
We would like thank the generous people who have already sponsored or pledged to sponsor us on this challenge, and also put in a gentle nudge to others who might like to sponsor us.
You can do this by either , giving it direct or putting it in to the bank details that will follow, using your name and cycle challenge for a reference.
I will also set up a just giving page to share on Facebook.
On the day people are welcome to tag along for parts of it if they wish, or all of it! we might be going a faster pace than hound exercise though! Also it would be great to have people on the route to cheer us on, or back at the kennels if we ever make it back! we will have live up dates of where we are on the route throughout the day.
Thank you once again for your generosity
From
James and the Zetland wheelers!
Events for which more in-depth information will be issued:

The Puppy Show is planned for early July but there may be a limit on the number attending. There will be two pre-Puppy Show evenings.
A Barbecue and disco evening is also in the planning for July.
The Hunt Committee are also working on a number of Social Events for the Summer.
James and Harry have spent these last few months preparing for a new season with a lot of work out in the field. James is looking to have an open day so that the work behind the scenes keeping our pack of hounds can be appreciated. He is also looking at Terrier Racing!
So whilst we have all been restricted in our movements the work to keep the Zetland Hunt rolling has been moving on and with it the costs of maintaining the operation. Please remember that Subscriptions start in May whilst the Supporters Club membership starts renewal in September.
